  1. 01

    KS1 & KS2 Tutoring

Targeted one-to-one sessions in English (reading, writing, spelling), Maths and Science for Year 1 to Year 6. I identify curriculum gaps, build confidence and provide the stretch a busy classroom often can't offer.

  2. 02

    11 Plus Preparation

Structured preparation for 7+, 11 Plus and British and international school entrance assessments — covering both the academic content and the exam-room techniques needed to perform under pressure.

  3. 03

    British Curriculum for Expat Families

Specialist support for families relocating to a British international school or returning to the UK. I help students close curriculum gaps and settle into their new year group with ease.

  4. 04

    Early Reading

Early-reading support for Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2. Decoding practice, comprehension work and reading confidence — the foundations every later year depends on.

Bridging the Gap
to Academic Mastery.

I'm a UK-qualified teacher with over a decade of experience across British and international school systems. Trained through the Teach First leadership programme and with classroom experience at St Julian's International School in Lisbon, I provide bespoke educational support that bridges curriculum gaps and builds student confidence.

My approach combines high academic standards with an evidence-based understanding of how children learn. Drawing on my current Master's studies in Psychology, I focus on metacognition — teaching students not just what to learn, but how to learn.

Whether preparing for UK boarding-school entrance exams or mastering the foundations of the primary curriculum, I help students develop the cognitive resilience and academic skills they need for long-term success.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are you background checked?

Yes. I hold an enhanced DBS certificate (the UK background check required for anyone working with children) as well as the equivalent Portuguese certificate. Both are renewed regularly and available on request before our first session.

What is your teaching background?

I'm a UK-qualified teacher with PGCE and QTS. I trained on the Teach First leadership programme, taught in UK state primary schools, and went on to teach at St Julian's International School in Lisbon. I'm currently completing an MSc in Psychology, which shapes how I think about learning, memory and metacognition.

Which curricula do you specialise in?

The British / UK National Curriculum for primary (Year 1 to Year 6). I also work with families transitioning between systems — particularly the IB and American curricula moving into British — and with students preparing for 7+, 11 Plus and UK boarding-school entrance exams.

How can I contact you?

The enquiry form above reaches me directly. Otherwise, email lizzie@britishprimarytutor.com and I'll reply within 24 hours (Monday–Friday).

Which subjects do you tutor in?

English (reading, writing, grammar, comprehension), Maths across the full primary curriculum, early reading support, and verbal / non-verbal reasoning for 11 Plus preparation.

Do you offer support in the school holidays?

Yes. I run Holiday Booster sessions during UK school breaks — small-group or one-to-one — to consolidate the previous term and preview what's coming next. They prevent the "holiday slide" and give students a confident head-start.

What are your rates for tuition?

€60 per one-hour session and €50 per 40-minute session. Pricing is in euros as I'm based in Lisbon. Payment is taken before sessions take place.

Do you offer a trial session?

The first session is a diagnostic consultation — a relaxed opportunity for me to meet your child, assess their current level and agree a plan together. There's no obligation to continue afterwards.

How do payments and invoicing work?

Payment is made before sessions take place. I invoice in advance by bank transfer in euros. Longer-term clients can choose to pay termly in advance if that's easier.

What is your cancellation policy?

Sessions cancelled with more than 24 hours' notice can be rescheduled at no charge. Late cancellations (under 24 hours) are charged at the full session rate, reflecting the preparation already completed for that lesson.

Do I need to be home during the session?

Yes. For safeguarding purposes, a parent or guardian must be present in the home during online sessions. I also ask that students work in a shared area of the home (such as a dining table or study) rather than a bedroom. You don't need to sit in — just be present in the house.
